3 Simple ways to add Self Care to your Daily Routine

“Self Care” looks different for everyone.

Some important forms of self care that can go unrecognized include but are not limited to asking for help, forgiving yourself, putting yourself first, or even setting boundaries.

These all may seem simple but can be easier said than done and could take time and practice to add to your self care.

With that being said, there are a few simpler ways that you can add self care to your daily routine that do not require as much inner work and healing.

  1. Drink Water

I know, I know, you hear this all the time and recognize it’s importance— but do you actually drink enough of it?

Getting enough water every day is not just important for your physical health, but also your overall health. Not drinking enough water can cause many negative effects on your mental health that can get in the way of you having a good day. Dehydration effects your mood, your mindset, and can cause you to think unclearly. When we keep our bodies hydrated, not only are we preventing physical distress, we are also fighting against many mental stressors.

  2. Soak in the SUN

Sunlight is ESSENTIAL— again, not just for your physical health, but your mental and emotional health as well.

Now I understand that the sun isn’t always shining, but it doesn’t need to be shining bright to receive the benefits of vitamin D. These benefits include but are not limited to support of immune function, the support of bone health, and lowering blood pressure. On top of these physical benefits, vitamin D also has an extremely positive impact on mental health, mindset, and your mood. For days that the sun isn’t shining, I personally take a vitamin D supplement and would highly recommend asking your doctor if it would benefit you to do the same!

  3. Stretch

Life feels much better when your body feels like it can actually move!

Stretching keeps your muscles strong and flexible, strong and flexible means healthy. When our muscles become short and tight they become weak and unable to extend all the way and this could lead to injuries or an inability to function to the best of our ability. Simple daily stretching can help strengthen your range of motion and help your body to move the way it is meant to. You do not have to go crazy, unless you want to— a 5 minute stretch when you wake up will do the trick. Imagine how much better you would feel mentally, if your body was used to feeling warmed up and ready to go!
